Field Types - Basic fields
Purpose
This article explains how to add various text and signature controls to your forms in Damstra Forms, including their functions and customization options.
Text field
Use a Text Field to allow users to enter a single line of text. This is the default control for short text input.
Text area
Use a Text Area when you need users to enter longer text. It supports multiple lines and automatically expands to fit the content.
Recipient
Use the Recipient field to collect email addresses. This control is only available in Memos. On iPad, users can type an email address or tap the + button to select one from their contacts.
Address
Use the Address field to collect postal or street addresses. On iPad, users can tap a button to insert an address from their contacts.
Readonly text
Use Readonly Text to display instructional or informational content in your form. This field is not editable by users filling out the form.
To edit the text:
- Open the template editor.
- Click the cogwheel icon to access the settings panel.
- Enter or update the read-only text.
Readonly text in tables
To display different read-only text on each row of a table:
- Enable the Different value per row setting.
- Enter the desired text for each row.
Signature box
Use a Signature Box to allow users to sign the form digitally.
Display signatures in generated PDFs
If you are not using the Add-in to insert signature merge fields:
- When a user signs the form, the system inserts the text “Signed in Damstra Forms” into the generated PDF by default.
- To display the actual signature image:
- Edit the merge field in your Word document.
- Prepend “Image:” to the field name.
For example, changeSignaturetoImage: Signature.
