Copying a dashboard in Insights IWS
Summary:
You can create a copy of an existing dashboard by using the Save As feature. This allows you to duplicate dashboards with a new name and optionally convert shared visuals into local visuals for independent editing.
Steps:
Step 1: Open the dashboard you want to copy.
Step 2: Click the Save As icon on the dashboard icon bar.
Use the Save icon to save changes to the current dashboard.
Step 3: In the Save As Options dialog, enter a new name in the Name field.
You must enter a unique name. Insights will display an error if the field is left blank.
Step 4: Optionally, enter a description in the Description field (up to 255 characters).
Leading and trailing spaces are not allowed.
Step 5: Choose whether to convert all Visual Gallery visuals to local visuals by checking the box:
- If selected, all shared visuals become local to the new dashboard.
- If not selected, Insights uses the saved versions of the shared visuals.
Step 6: Click Save to create the new dashboard.
The copied dashboard appears in the dashboard library.
Save As behavior based on dashboard content:
| Dashboard Contains | Save As Options |
|---|---|
| Local visuals only | Enter a new name and optional description. |
| Local + Visual Gallery visuals (no unsaved changes) | Enter a new name and optional description. Optionally convert shared visuals to local. |
| Local + Visual Gallery visuals (with unsaved changes) | Enter a new name and optional description. Optionally convert shared visuals to local. Unsaved changes are applied to the local visuals in the new dashboard. |
If you don’t convert shared visuals, the new dashboard will use the saved versions of those visuals.
Tips:
- You can only copy visuals if you have Write permission for them.
- Converting shared visuals to local allows you to customize them without affecting other dashboards.
- Always save your dashboard after copying to preserve changes.
