Adding local visuals to a dashboard in IWS Insights
Summary:
Learn how to create and add a local visual to a dashboard in Damstra Insights. Local visuals are unique to the dashboard they’re created on and follow the dashboard’s permission settings.
Steps:
Step 1: Create or edit a dashboard.
Only users with Creator access can create dashboards and add local visuals.
Step 2: Click the Add Visual icon on the dashboard icon bar.
Example: Click the icon that looks like to open the drop-down menu.
Step 3: Select Add New Visual from the menu.
The Select a Source dialog appears.
Step 4: Choose a data source in Step 1 of 2: Select a Source.
The Select a Visual Type dialog appears.
Step 5: Choose a visual style in Step 2 of 2: Select Visual Type.
The visual is created and added to the dashboard.
Local visuals are tied to the dashboard they’re created on. If the dashboard is deleted, the local visual is also deleted. Changes to a local visual do not affect other dashboards.
Step 6: Optionally, click the visual’s display name to rename it.
- Names must be 1–255 characters long.
- Names can include letters, numbers, spaces, and special characters.
- Names cannot start with a space or contain only spaces.
- If a visual name already exists, Damstra Insights appends a number (e.g., “(2)”) to make it unique.
Step 7: Modify the visual as needed.
Step 8: Save the dashboard.
If you close the dashboard without saving, the local visual will not be saved.
Tips:
- You can convert a local visual to a Visual Gallery visual at any time, and vice versa.
- Use meaningful names to help identify visuals quickly.
- Always save your dashboard after adding or editing visuals.
