Adding filter snippets to a dashboard in Insights IWS
Summary:
Use filter snippets to quickly and easily filter data across multiple visuals in your dashboard. Filter snippets allow users to highlight data using input values from dashboard sources, including attributes, numbers, and time-based fields. You can also link multiple filter snippets for more flexible filtering.
Steps:
Step 1: Create or edit a dashboard.
- To add a filter snippet to an existing dashboard, log in with Read and Write permissions.
- To create a new dashboard, log in with Creator access.
Step 2: Click the Add Filter Snippet icon on the dashboard icon bar.
A new filter snippet widget appears on the dashboard, ready for editing.
Step 3: Open the Settings menu to access the filter snippet sidebar.
Use this menu to adjust data settings, filter snippet settings, or widget settings.

Step 4: Add filter values:
- Custom values: Type a field name into the search box and click Add to include it.
- Source values:
- Open Data Settings in the sidebar.
- Select a Source and Field from your dashboard’s available data.
- Click Apply to add the source and field to the filter.
Step 5: Link visuals and other filter snippets:
- Click Connect Widgets to open the Connect Visuals work area.
- Click Add Widgets, then select a Display Name and Field for each visual you want to link.
- Repeat to add multiple widgets.
- Click the Remove icon to unlink a widget.
- Click Apply to finalize connections.
If all available widgets are added, the work area closes automatically.
Step 6: Save the dashboard.
If you close the dashboard without saving, the filter snippet will not be retained.
Tips:
- Resize and reposition filter snippets to complement your dashboard layout.
- Filter snippets are deleted when the dashboard is deleted.
- Use multiple linked filter snippets for advanced filtering across visuals.
